Supporting and encouraging ways to be active that work for patients that have a physical, sensory or learning disability.

Supporting Disability

One in five people in England have a long-standing limiting disability or illness. Data suggests that disabled people are almost twice as likely to be physically inactive (43%), compared with those without a disability (23%).

This inequality increases sharply as the number of impairments a person has increases, with 51% of people with three or more impairments inactive. If these population disparities are not addressed, the inequalities that already exist for disabled people will increase.

Resources for supporting disabled patients

When supporting disabled people to be active, we understand there is a lot to learn and find out. Knowing where to start can be tricky because there are many organisations, opportunities, and resources available.

This resource is a guideline on where to start, where to find out more, and who to contact on the road to being active. It can be particularly useful for people who have little knowledge about sport and activity.

The roadmap was created in partnership with the Active Partnership Network, Disability Rights UK, and Sport England.
