2023-24 Summer Term

Summer Term 2024

The Healthy Movers Summer term has been well received, with a continuation of Power Hours, Physical Literacy training and Networking sessions. 10 settings joined the programme in July for the Physical Literacy training, with power hours delivered via a mix of face to face and virtual sessions. Two of these sessions were aimed at Dorset's Best Start in Life colleagues, for them to incorporate into their new roles from September.

Networking events continued to be popular and bought together practitioners, managers and childminders from across Dorset, to share best practice and top tips. A key learning has been a collective concern and challenge around the Health Movers book bag distribution and not being returned by parents after the session. Another challenge raised was that SEND children may struggle to get involved with physical activities that other children may find fun.

There have been many settings and childminders who have now started to use Healthy Movers to engage their parent/carers and families following the family engagement training. One setting has targeted specific children who are struggling with motivation and/or have delays in gross motor skills to have the book bags to take home.
